Andrea Amigo focuses her practice on higher education and labor and employment law. Drawing on her prior role as associate general counsel for Florida Atlantic University, Andrea advises colleges and universities on employment law matters, student affairs, public records and open government requirements, disability accommodations, and state and federal regulatory compliance.
 
Andrea also assists higher education clients in navigating internal investigations, complex disputes, administrative proceedings, and all phases of litigation. She regularly partners with colleges and universities to develop policies and procedures, conduct training programs, negotiate and review agreements, and address evolving legal and operational challenges.
 
In addition to the education sector, Andrea represents private employers, governmental entities, and public officials in state and federal courts and before administrative agencies. Her experience includes employment discrimination and retaliation claims, civil rights matters, governmental liability, negligence actions, and other complex disputes, positioning her to help clients manage risk, protect their interests, and pursue effective resolutions aligned with their organizational goals. Andrea frequently teams with GrayRobinson colleagues in the litigation, appellate, government, and labor and employment practices to provide integrated solutions for higher education and other business clients.
  • Notable Work
    • As associate general counsel for Florida Atlantic University, served as counsel of record and key advisor to university leadership on complex higher education compliance, student affairs matters, employment law actions, Public Records Act and Sunshine Law issues, personal injury claims, risk protection orders, and appellate litigation matters.
    • Skilled in defending governmental entities and advising government leaders, councils, and commissions on complex civil defense and risk management strategies.
    • Quality of Life, Corp. v. City of Margate, 805 Fed. Appx. 762 (11th Cir. 2020) - Defended the City of Margate, securing summary judgment dismissing the plaintiff’s claims of disparate treatment, disparate impact, and failure to accommodate under the Fair Housing Act and Americans with Disabilities Act. The U.S. Court of Appeals for the 11th Circuit affirmed the judgment on appeal.
    • Citizens for Responsible Development, Inc. v. City of Dania Beach, 358 So.3d 1 (Fla. 4th DCA 2023) - Defended the City of Dania Beach in litigation challenging the City’s approval of development agreements permitting the expansion of a pari-mutuel facility. Obtained summary judgment dismissing claims for declaratory judgment and injunctive relief. The 4th District Court of Appeal affirmed the judgment.
    • Gilliams v. Cole, et al., 320 So.3d 753 (Fla. 4th DCA 2021) - Represented the City Clerk for the City of Sebastian in litigation alleging violations of Florida’s Sunshine Law. Successfully obtained dismissal of the petitioner’s claims, which the 4th District Court of Appeal affirmed. 
    • Marcone v. Town of Palm Beach, 359 So.3d 732 (Fla. 4th DCA 2023) - Secured summary judgment on behalf of the Town of Palm Beach dismissing plaintiff’s premises liability claim. The Fourth District Court of Appeal affirmed the judgment.
    • Hobe-St. Lucie Conservancy District v. Martin County et al., 336 So.3d 2 (Fla. 4th DCA 2021) - Represented Hobe-St. Lucie Conservancy District on appeal following the trial court’s entry of summary judgment in favor of Martin County and the South Florida Water Management District. The 4th District Court of Appeal reversed and remanded with instructions to enter summary judgment for the district, holding that its charge constituted a valid special assessment rather than an unauthorized tax.
