Government Affairs and Lobbying

The GrayRobinson government affairs team is comprised of numerous attorneys and governmental consultants throughout the state, including two former Speakers of the Florida House, former county commissioners, a former General Counsel to the Florida Governor, a former executive agency Secretary, and other members who act as policy advisors, strategic consultants, and general advocates for clients ranging from small businesses and local governments to Fortune 500 companies. We work collaboratively at the local government level as well as at the legislative, executive and Cabinet level in Tallahassee year round, and are prepared to represent the myriad interests of businesses that are preparing to enter the cannabis industry in Florida. Because we have such strong connections with key elected officials and government regulators, we offer a unique perspective on the most efficient means of meeting our clients’ legislative and regulatory goals.

Our team has the long-term experience essential to preparing legislation, both general bills and amendments, and identifying funding sources and successfully shepherding specific appropriations through the House, Senate and Governor’s office. This combination of skills is essential in a time when the cannabis industry is still so new in Florida. Much of what leads to gaining support for legislation are strong relationships with elected officials. As importantly, our team is skilled in defeating unfriendly legislation and attempts to reduce or eliminate appropriations line items and proviso language, which can be detrimental to clients.

Our lobbyists also have a particular understanding of business operations and needs of the business community at a public policy level. We understand that business success is more than merely delivering a product or service to the marketplace – that business success hinges on a multitude of complex factors including leadership, productive employee relations, and the need to maintain a positive workplace environment.
