GrayRobinson Shareholder Jason Searl Successfully Avoids Impact Fees in Affordable Housing Development Project

December 8, 2022

GrayRobinson Shareholder Jason Searl was instrumental in avoiding impact fees on behalf of One Stop Housing LLC, developers behind the Ambassador Hotel building conversion into an affordable housing apartment complex named Palm Gardens in Orlando. Orlando City Council approved an exemption on school impact fees for the project, saving $735,859 and allowing the property to remain as much-needed affordable housing. According to District 5 City Commissioner Regina Hill, the impact fees are a roadblock to developing affordable housing. As a result of Searl’s counsel, these waivers will allow the project to provide safer and more affordable living spaces for homeless families and children in need. One Stop Housing LLC will convert the hotel’s 220 rooms into housing units, with 109 reserved for tenants earning 50% or less of the area’s median income.
