GAINESVILLE, Fla. – GrayRobinson is proud to announce patent attorney and engineering professional Sean E. Combs has joined the firm’s Intellectual Property (IP) practice as a shareholder. Based in the Gainesville office, Combs offers a full range of patent law services to protect clients’ valuable assets while prioritizing innovation and safeguarding their IP in a competitive market.

"His knowledge in patents, combined with his engineering and complex technologies experience, makes him a unique resource for our IP clients and builds our capabilities in growing areas such as AI patents."
Combs' patent law services range from drafting applications to advising on patentability and infringement, as well as knowledge of trademarks, copyrights, licensing agreements, and trade secret protection. With a strong background in IP enforcement and claim analysis, Combs works closely with clients to create customized strategies for protecting, commercializing, and maximizing the value of their IP, including using it for funding, acquisitions, and due diligence.

Combs has experience preparing and prosecuting patent applications with the United States Patent and Trademark Office, focusing on inventions in fields like mechanical and medical devices, energy, software, finance, and environmental technologies. His technical expertise covers a wide range of systems, including mining equipment, oil and gas technologies, robotics, drones, generators, battery and solar tech, wind energy, and water treatment.
Combs earned his Juris Doctor and an IP Certificate from the University of Florida (UF) Levin College of Law. He also holds dual undergraduate degrees in Mining and Civil Engineering from West Virginia University. Combs is licensed to practice in Florida and before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office. He currently serves as vice chair of The Florida Bar’s Business Law Section IP Committee and mentors law students and aspiring IP attorneys at UF.
