GrayRobinson Shareholder Roger Handberg to Present Virtual CLE on Recent Changes to Florida Rules of Criminal Procedure to Miami-Dade Bar Criminal Court Committee

October 6, 2026

GrayRobinson is pleased to share Shareholder Roger Handberg will present "Update on Recent Changes and Proposed Changes to the Florida Rules of Criminal Procedure: Are the Florida Rules Becoming More Similar to the Federal System?" as a virtual CLE for the Miami-Dade Bar's Criminal Court Committee on October 6, 2026, at 1:00 pm ET via Zoom.

The CLE presentation covers three recent changes and one proposed change to the rules governing speedy trial, the filing of formal charges, detention motions, and adversarial probable cause determinations. In some respects, the changes to the speedy trial, formal charges, and detention rules have made the state system more similar to the federal system. Roger will compare those changes to the corresponding provisions of federal law, highlighting where they align and where they differ, and will provide an overview of the proposed change to the rule regarding adversarial probable cause determinations.

Based in the firm’s Orlando office, Roger brings more than two decades of prosecutorial and litigation experience to the firm’s criminal and white-collar defense practice. He previously served as U.S. Attorney for the Middle District of Florida, where he directed an office of more than 120 attorneys, and earlier held senior posts within the U.S. Department of Justice and the Florida Attorney General’s Office. Roger was appointed to The Florida Bar’s Criminal Procedure Rules Committee for a term beginning July 1, 2026, and previously chaired the Florida Subcommittee of the American Bar Association’s White Collar Crime Committee.
