GrayRobinson is pleased to share Shareholder Roger Handberg presented “Scams, Schemes, and Safeguards: Lessons from Federal Elder Fraud Cases” at the Rotary Club of St. Petersburg's weekly meeting on May 29, 2026.
Drawing on his experience as a former federal prosecutor, Roger addressed some of the most common fraud schemes used to target older adults, the warning signs that a loved one may have been victimized, and the practical steps family members and friends can take to help protect those around them. For club members working in banking or financial services, Roger also addressed Florida laws that impose a duty to report suspected elder fraud. With the average victim losing more than $80,000, Roger underscored why prevention efforts are time well spent for everyone in the community.
Based in the firm’s Orlando office, Roger brings over two decades of frontline prosecutorial and litigation experience to the firm’s criminal and white-collar defense practice. As the former U.S. Attorney for the Middle District of Florida, one of the largest and most active federal jurisdictions in the country, Roger has a national reputation for successfully managing major financial crime, public corruption, and regulatory enforcement cases.
