ORLANDO, FL – February 4, 2015 – On January 23, 2015, GrayRobinson’s Orlando office hosted a Community Leader Forum featuring Ken Potrock, Senior Vice President and General Manager of Disney Vacation Club and Adventures by Disney Executive, and Board Member of the Metro Orlando Economic Development Commission. Potrock discussed the Metro Orlando Economic Development Commissions new campaign: "Orlando. You don’t know the half of it."
Potrock began his presentation by stating that Orlando has a whole other half to its identity beyond tourism. Orlando has strong brand visibility worldwide due to its prowess in tourism and hospitality. Unfortunately, Orlando's strengths as a business location outside of tourism are not as well known — even by those who live in the area. As a result, the Metro Orlando Economic Development Commission set out to rebrand the area as, "Orlando. You don’t know the half of it." With this campaign, the Metro Orlando Economic Development Commission is out to change minds resulting in an increase in the number of companies evaluating Orlando as a business location, which will create more and better jobs.
Research revealed that Orlando only makes it onto the "short list" for consideration as a business location about one-third of the time because decision makers don’t know all there is to know about our great region. Some of the region’s assets Potrock highlighted include the Lake Nona medical complex, University of Central Florida, Full Sail University, and the defense industry. To further illustrate how the campaign will communicate the message, he shared a video and a few advertisements with the audience. One advertisement from the campaign features an image of a medical researcher with the text, "Fantasy, meet reality." Potrock has been the Senior Vice President and General Manager at Disney Vacation Club and Adventures by Disney since February of 2013. Prior to that he was the Senior Vice President and Disney’s Sports Enterprises and Downtown Disney. Potrock has always been involved with Disney, beginning as a Vice President in Marketing for Disney Cruise Lines, then leading Global Alliance Marketing for Disney’s $12 billion Parks and Resorts division, which includes the five Disney Resorts around the world, Disney Cruise Line, Disney Vacation Club and the Adventures by Disney travel business. He received his bachelor’s from Washington University in St. Louis and his Masters of Business Administration from Northwestern University.
