On Thursday, April 24, 2014, GrayRobinson’s Community Leader Forum hosted by GrayRobinson's Jacksonville office featured Mark Frisch, Owner of the Jacksonville Armada FC and Executive Vice President of Beaver Street Fisheries | Sea Best Corp. Frisch spoke on the topic "The Making of a Jacksonville Sports Franchise." In May 2013, Frisch and former Major League Soccer player Darío Sala formed Sunshine Soccer Group with the intention of bringing professional soccer to Jacksonville. The effort was bolstered by several successful soccer matches held at EverBank Field, including two that set records for international friendlies. The North American Soccer League invited the group to present a bid for a 2015 expansion team at their July 25, 2013 board meeting. The bid was accepted and the North American Soccer League announced Jacksonville would receive a franchise for the 2015 season.
The Armada have not yet announced their official stadium for 2015, but said it will likely be either the Baseball Grounds of Jacksonville or Hodges Stadium at the University of North Florida. They ultimately hope to construct their own soccer-specific stadium.
