GrayRobinson Shareholders Luis Rivera, Derek Rooney, and David Ruben Named in Naples Illustrated’s "Top Lawyer" 2025 List

September 1, 2025

GrayRobinson is pleased to announce three attorneys have been named in Naples Illustrated’s “Top Lawyers” 2025 List, including Bankruptcy Deputy Section Chair and Fort Myers and Naples Deputy Managing Shareholder Luis Rivera and Shareholders Derek Rooney and David Ruben.

The September 2025 issue of Naples Illustrated features its annual “Top Lawyers” list, developed in partnership with Professional Research Services. Licensed Collier and Lee County attorneys were surveyed and asked to nominate peers – excluding themselves – whom they would recommend in various specialties, with up to three colleagues allowed per category. Nominees were then evaluated based on survey results, license status, and their standing with The Florida Bar. Attorneys receiving the highest number of votes qualified for inclusion on this year’s list.

Luis was recognized by his peers for his work in Bankruptcy and Creditor Debtor Rights/Insolvency and Reorganization Law. Based in the firm’s Fort Myers office, Luis is a seasoned litigator with extensive experience in business litigation, bankruptcy, creditors’ rights, and insolvency. One of only 10 attorneys in Florida board-certified in Business Bankruptcy and Consume Bankruptcy Law by the American Board of Certification, he also serves as one of two court-appointed fiduciaries administering Chapter 7 bankruptcy cases in Southwest Florida. Luis represents lenders, financial institutions, and individuals in complex bankruptcy and litigation matters, while also serving his community as a trustee of Florida Gulf Coast University.

Derek was recognized by his peers for his work in Land Use and Zoning Law. Based in the firm’s Fort Myers office, Derek is board-certified by The Florida Bar in City, County, and Local Government Law, representing public and private clients in matters involving land use, municipal law, and public-private partnerships. He serves as counsel to several Southwest Florida municipalities and agencies, advising on issues ranging from land development and environmental law to municipal finance and economic development. Derek also litigates land use disputes across Florida and has extensive experience with claims under the Bert J. Harris, Jr., Private Property Rights Protection Act.

David was recognized by his peers for his work in Trusts and Estates. Based in the firm’s Naples office, David is a trusted advisor dedicated to protecting and preserving the wealth of Floridians, focusing on estate planning, trust and estate administration, tax planning, and wealth transfer. He works collaboratively with clients to ensure legacy goals are achieved for generations to come. A recognized thought leader, David has authored numerous articles and a book on estate planning and frequently speaks on topics, including change of domicile, estate tax planning, and probate avoidance.
