GRay Matters – 2020 Session: Week 2

TALLAHASSEE, FL – January 27, 2020 – GrayRobinson's Government Affairs and Lobbying practice group released its weekly GRay Matters Session newsletter, "2020 Session: Week 2." The second week of the Legislative Session brought an update on the timeline for the Legislature’s core duty: passing a state budget. House Speaker-designate Chris Sprowls’ bill to block life insurance companies from considering genetic testing results was approved by the House Commerce Committee. A priority bill of Senate President-designate Wilton Simpson cleared the Senate Children, Families, and Elder Affairs Committee with a unanimous vote. The bill was aimed at bringing more accountability to the Florida Department of Children and Families (DCF). The "Bill of the Week" section includes bills sponsored by Representative Dan Daley (HB 23) and Senator Lauren Book (SB 70) that would require public schools to incorporate panic alarms. The "Client Spotlight" section profiles client Canaveral Port Authority, and the "Looking Ahead" section discusses next week's full slate of committee meetings in the House and Senate.
