ORLANDO, FL – November 1, 2013 – U.S. News and Best Lawyers has named GrayRobinson P.A. the "Law Firm of the Year" in eminent domain and condemnation law as part of its annual Best Law Firms rankings. Each year, one firm is selected for this recognition within each of the 80 practice areas. The firm also received 37 additional tier rankings for metropolitan practice areas.
"U.S. News and Best Lawyers rankings are widely recognized in the legal profession as the best of the best because they reflect the voices of your peers and clients. It’s an honor for our firm to consistently be included because it shows our continuous commitment to the industry and exceptional legal counsel," said GrayRobinson President Byrd F. "Biff" Marshall, Jr. "Being honored as a ‘Law Firm of the Year’ for our Eminent Domain and Condemnation practice marks this year’s rankings as a milestone for the firm."
GrayRobinson’s Orlando Eminent Domain practice group is led by shareholder Kent L. Hipp, who was named the Best Lawyers’ 2014 Orlando Eminent Domain and Condemnation Law "Lawyer of the Year." Attorneys in the statewide practice group, one of the largest in Florida, represent property owners and taking authorities throughout the entire state of Florida. They handle every stage of eminent domain matters from pre-condemnation planning and pre-suit negotiation, to preparing and filing the pleadings, to negotiation, mediations and, when necessary, trial.
As one example of the eminent domain practice group’s level of skill, Mr. Hipp and shareholder Nick Dancaescu were recently able to obtain approximately $1.2 million dollars for their client, Whisenant Farms, despite the condemning authority’s appraiser suggesting the impacts were only $428,000. The taking was for the construction of a high-voltage transmission powerline across the Whisenants’ 1,730-acre operating farm.
