TAMPA, FL – December 12, 2018 – Alcohol and food law attorney Elizabeth DeConti, shareholder in GrayRobinson’s Tampa law firm office, published an article in the Hotel Executive titled “The Future of Sports Gambling in the Hospitality Industry.” DeConti magnifies the Murphy v. NCAA case, which struck down the Professional and Amateur Sports Protection Act (PASPA) due to a violation of the anti-commandeering doctrine of the U.S. Constitution. PASPA makes it unlawful for a State or its subdivisions "to sponsor, operate, advertise, promote, license, or authorize by law or compact…a lottery, sweepstakes, or other betting, gambling, or wagering scheme based…on competitive sporting events." DeConti discusses the nature, legal landscape, and future of sports gambling after this decision.
