Dean Cannon Listed as a Florida Politician of the Decade

TALLAHASSEE, FL – January 3, 2020 – GrayRobinson President and Chief Executive Officer, Dean Cannon, was ranked number seven on the Florida Politics’ top 25 Florida Politicians of the Decade list. The list was identified by a panel of key influencers who tapped into their sizeable expertise and pinpointed the political figures who emerged as influencers in the 2010’s. Cannon’s eight years in the Legislature and imprint on property tax reform, transportation, health care, and growth management earned him a position on the list closely behind Rick Scott, Richard Corcoran, Marco Rubio, Ron DeSantis, Bill Nelson and Buddy Dyer.

The press release announcing Cannon’s rank stresses that although his time serving as House Speaker from 2010 to 2012 was enough for him to top the Politicians of the Decade list, it was the tumultuous time in which he resided that further boosted his recognition. Heading into his first year holding the gavel, Florida was reeling from the Great Recession and was facing a $2 billion shortfall. "When Cannon took the reins in 2010, he was one of the few recognizable and trustworthy people at the top of the state government. That distinction required him to serve as a stabilizing force in Tallahassee, and he rose to the challenge," the article states. "His second act" of rising to the top of Florida Lobbying and taking over as President and CEO of GrayRobinson in September of 2019, also attributed to his number seven ranking.
