GrayRobinson Recognized as a Florida Powerhouse by Law360

FLORIDA – July 3, 2014GrayRobinson, P.A., announced today that Law360 has recognized the firm as one of seven Florida Powerhouses in the publication’s inaugural Regional Powerhouses series. In addition to being one of Florida’s fastest-growing law firms, GrayRobinson was selected for its impact on both the overall business and local communities in Florida.

"We are honored to be recognized as one of the inaugural Florida Powerhouses by Law360," said GrayRobinson President and Managing Director Byrd F. "Biff" Marshall, Jr. "We’ve steadily built our practice by finding the best talent to address the ever-changing needs of our home state and have consistently evaluated our business strategies to align with the state’s most pressing issues at hand – which has been a crucial component to our success and statewide growth in recent years."

Since 1970 GrayRobinson has been dedicated to being "Florida’s law firm." With a strong investment in the local community, proven leadership, strategic expansion, and track record of commanding wins in the courtroom, the firm has solidified itself as a key figure behind a few of Florida’s biggest success stories. The firm’s government relations, litigation, corporate and transactional attorneys have made a deep impact on the state and its bottom-line growth for local businesses.

GrayRobinson’s success is largely based on the strong foundation set in place by its senior leadership. For more than 20 years, Marshall has guided GrayRobinson as it grew from 30 attorneys in Orlando to nearly 300 in 12 cities across the state.

Another important leader behind the firm’s success is Mayanne Downs, chair of the litigation department and shareholder in the Orlando office. Downs oversees the work of 165 litigators, makes strategic policy recommendations to the mayor of Orlando as the city’s legal counsel, and relentlessly strives to create a firm-wide work environment that encourages work-life balance, particularly for women. The flexible schedule and in-house benefits Downs affords her Orlando-based team of all women was spotlighted in the Orlando Sentinel earlier this year and made headlines across the country.

GrayRobinson’s commitment to being an active part of each community where it does business has been at the core of the company’s efforts since its opening in 1970.

The Melbourne office was recently named "Business of the Year" by Florida Today’s annual Volunteer Recognition Awards for its many efforts supporting local causes. The office hosts a bi-annual event showcasing the work of local artists, and for 20 years office leadership pioneered a legendary local fundraising event where doctors and lawyers grabbed their surf boards and hit the waves for a weekend in support of national children’s charities.

When Miami shareholder Philippe Devé was diagnosed with leukemia in the fall of 2013, the firm’s offices rallied together and organized drives to find a matching candidate for a bone marrow transplant. The drives helped raise awareness of the disease throughout the state and educated Floridians about the importance of getting tested.
