GrayRobinson's Ben Newman to Serve as the New Chairman of the Civil Service Board for the Seminole County Sheriff's Office

ORLANDO, Fla. -- February 08, 2013 -- Benjamin W. "Ben" Newman, a shareholder in the Orlando office of GrayRobinson, P.A., was recently selected to serve as the new chairman of the Civil Service Board for the Seminole County Sheriff's Office. As Chairman, Newman will guide the organization in maintaining standards set by the Sheriff's office for sworn-in law enforcement officers and other employed personnel. Newman has served on the Board since 1998 as a direct appointment of Sheriff Don Eslinger, and previously was the vice chair.

As part of GrayRobinson's litigation group, Newman concentrates his practice on insurance defense, medical malpractice defense and mediation/arbitration services. He represents medical and podiatric physicians, hospitals, home health nursing agencies, chiropractors and emergency medical services. He frequently leads presentations and seminars to physicians, hospital staffs, health care administrators, and insurance professionals on a variety of liability and risk management issues. Newman also focuses on his alternative dispute resolution practice as a federal and state certified mediator, as well as a qualified arbitrator by the Florida Supreme Court. He is a member of the Orange County Bar Association and The Florida Bar.

Newman holds several other community leadership roles in addition to his involvement with the Seminole County Sheriff's Office. He is currently Chairman of the Board of Directors for the Foundation for Seminole State College of Florida and sits on the board of directors for Kids House of Seminole and Trinity Prep Alumni Association.

He received his juris doctorate from the University of Miami and his Bachelor of Arts from American University.
