Food Law Attorneys Richard Blau and Anna Wiand to Present on Legislating and Litigating the Concept of "Natural" to Stetson Food Law Society

TAMPA, FL – February 1, 2016 – National Alcohol Beverage Law and Food Law Department chair, Richard M. Blau attorney at law, and Alcohol Beverage Law and Food Law Department associate, Anna M. Wiand attorney at law, will present to the Stetson University College of Law Food Law Society on "Legislating and Litigating the Concept of "Natural" as it Applies to Food." The presentation will take place on March 3, 2016 from 11:55 – 1:05 at the Stetson campus in Gulfport. The presentation will encompass the FDA’s recent decision to take on the definition of "natural" for regulatory purposes. Anna will discuss what the process of promulgating an administrative scheme for defining "natural" will likely entail. Richard will provide a review on why the definition of "natural" has become necessary, through a review of the avalanche of tort cases that have been filed against processed food manufacturers and retailers alleging misleading advertising and unfair trade practices.

The Stetson University College of Law Food Law Society provides a forum for students who are interested in issues of food law and policy. The goals of this organization are to promote awareness of the legal and policy approaches regarding these issues in the hopes of protecting the safety of the food supply and illuminating the process of food production. The society’s activities will include general discussion of the issues and providing opportunities for students to engage with professionals in the fields of food law and policy.
