JACKSONVILLE, FL – November 3, 2015 – On October 30, 2015, attorney S. Grier Wells, shareholder in GrayRobinson's Jacksonville law firm office, was the luncheon speaker at an ABA Workshop on Lawyer Referral Services in New Orleans, Louisiana, attended by representatives from the ABA, state and local bar associations and attorneys. His speech, entitled "Lawyer Referral Services – The Florida Experience," chronicled the creation of The Florida Bar’s Special Committee on Lawyer Referral Services’, chaired by Grier, and its investigation of non-lawyer owned for-profit referral services. The Special Committee’s investigation resulted in recommendations for significant changes in Bar rules related to attorneys’ relationship with such referral services, followed by The Florida Bar’s modification of the Special Committee’s recommendations and the ultimate opinion by the Florida Supreme Court rejecting the Bar’s proposed rules and endorsing the Special Committee’s recommendations.
