Villamil shared his insight on the economy and gave guidance on how to successfully manage your business in the "new normal." He said that the "new normal" will lead to slower economic growth than in prior cycles, but with ample financial liquidity and low-interest rates. He anticipates low and stable short-term interest rates through 2013 but cautioned attendees to closely watch the "fiscal cliff" and the Affordable Care Act ("Obamacare").
Villamil is a nationally recognized economist, with over thirty-five years of successful career as a business economist, university educator and high-level policymaker for both federal and state governments. He has served as a Presidential appointee as US Undersecretary of Commerce for Economic Affairs, and he is the founder of a successful economic consulting practice, The Washington Economics Group, Inc. (WEG).
