Mayanne Downs Named Ninth Most Powerful Person by Orlando Magazine’s 50 Most Powerful List

ORLANDO, FL – July 3, 2014 – Mayanne Downs, shareholder and firmwide chair of the Litigation Department in GrayRobinson’s Orlando office, has been named the ninth most powerful person in Orlando by Orlando Magazine. This is Orlando Magazine’s eleventh annual 50 Most Powerful List. The list encompasses people of Orlando who make things happen and includes political leaders, university presidents, community activists, business owners, legal minds, philanthropists. They are movers and shakers, who also possess the power to move and inspire others.

Downs,  an Orlando native,  has been part of the Central Florida business community for more than 35 years and has practiced law for over 25 years. Her practice areas include commercial litigation, appellate law and high-stakes domestic matters. She has also served as the City Attorney of Orlando since 2007, overseeing 25 lawyers and providing counsel to the mayor and city commission.

A graduate of the University of Florida at the top of her law school class, Downs received the Orlando Business Journal’s Women Who Mean Business "Woman of the Year" Award in 2014,  and has been recognized by Florida Trend's "Legal Elite," in 2013, Florida Super Lawyers in 2006 and 2008-2014, AV-Rated by Martindale-Hubbell in 2014, Best Lawyers in America 2007-2014 and listed in Orlando Magazine's Best Lawyers from 2007-2013. She also was recommended by the state Judicial Nominating Commission for appointment to Florida's 5th District Court of Appeal, and served as President of The Florida Bar, a mandatory organization with 100,000 members.
