Labor and Employment E-lert: FL DEO Signs CARES Act Agreement to Provide Enhanced Reemployment Benefits in Florida in Response to COVID-19

Yesterday the Florida Department of Economic Opportunity (FL DEO) confirmed that it has signed an agreement with the U.S. Department of Labor to execute the Coronavirus Aid, Relief and Economic Security Act (CARES Act) in Florida. The FL DEO also confirmed that it received direction from Governor DeSantis to waive the one-week waiting period for the receipt of Reemployment Assistance Benefits. This waiver allows Florida to receive additional federal funds to cover the waiting period in accordance with the CARES Act. In addition, the CARES Act also provides federal funding to increase the weekly benefits to eligible applicants by $600 per week, and extends the availability of reemployment benefits for an additional 13 weeks beyond the normal Florida benefit coverage period.

The FL DEO press release is available here, and the FL DEO’s FAQ regarding Reemployment Assistance related to COVID-19 is available here.
