MELBOURNE, FL – May 25, 2017 – Attorney Ted Shinkle, a shareholder in GrayRobinson’s Melbourne law firm office, was recognized as a Proctor Member of the Maritime Law Association (MLA) of the United States.

The designation “Proctor in Admiralty” is applied to lawyers with experience and expertise in handling maritime litigation. “Proctor” was deemed appropriate for use in the MLA to designate the most distinguished class of membership for practicing maritime attorneys. The MLA is an affiliated organization of the American Bar Association (ABA) and is represented in the ABA House of Delegates. The ABA’s Model Rules of Professional Conduct recognize that lawyers engaged in the practice of admiralty may be described by such designations as “Proctor in Admiralty,” acknowledging the long historical tradition associating maritime commerce and the federal courts, and recognizing admiralty and maritime practice as a unique field of law.

Shinkle is board certified by The Florida Bar in admiralty and maritime law. During his career, his practice has involved the representation of shipowners, cruise lines, dredging companies, maritime suppliers, small-boat owners, yacht owners, marine salvors, international protection and indemnity associations, marine insurance companies and lending institutions in a variety of litigation matters. He has handled numerous personal injury claims under the Jones Act, the Death on the High Seas Act, the Longshore and Harbor Workers' Compensation Act, and general maritime law. His practice also includes collision cases, maritime lien claims and vessel mortgage foreclosures.
