JACKSONVILLE, FL – April 21, 2017 – On April 19, 2017, the Senate unanimously approved legislation requiring the Department of Environmental Protection to provide notice of a toxic spill occurrence within 24 hours. Florida Senator Bill Galvano filed Senate Bill 520 back in January, which stemmed from a request by Governor Rick Scott to implement new public notification rules and legislation to ensure the public is kept informed when an incident affects public health and natural resources. The Bill takes effect beginning July 1, 2017. See the full text of SB532.
