Community Leader Forum - Orlando - Dr. W. Kent Fuchs, President, University of Florida

ORLANDO, FL – July 15, 2016 – On July 13, 2016, GrayRobinson’s Orlando office hosted a Community Leader Forum featuring Dr. W. Kent Fuchs, President of the University of Florida (UF).

In accepting the presidency at UF, Dr. Fuchs outlined his overarching goal for the University: To elevate its stature, as measured by quality and comparative excellence, to that of one of the nation’s best public universities. UF recently surpassed the $400M mark in fundraising, and is currently among the top 15 public and private universities in the country. They are a leader in state of Florida for graduation rates, and a leader in the state of Florida for online graduation rates, with 15 different areas available for degrees through the online program. UF was also ranked among the top 50 worldwide public universities who were granted the most U.S. utility patents in 2015. The University of Florida Research Foundation, Inc., tied for 12th place on the list.

Prior to serving as President at UF, Fuchs served as provost of Cornell University. There he led the creation of a new technology campus in New York City, launched a university-wide initiative to raise Cornell’s academic stature and was instrumental in Cornell’s fundraising efforts. He was appointed provost after serving as the university’s Joseph Silbert Dean of Engineering from 2002 to 2008. Prior to his time at Cornell, he worked at Purdue University, where he headed the School of Electrical and Computer Engineering from 1996 to 2002. He was a professor in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering and the Coordinated Science Laboratory at the University of Illinois from 1985 to 1996.

Fuchs earned his doctorate in electrical and computer engineering from the University of Illinois, and a master of divinity from Trinity Evangelical Divinity School in Chicago.
