FDA's New Regulations for Food Transport Exclude Alcohol Beverages

TAMPA, FL – April 8, 2016 – On April 5, 2016, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) announced issuance of a new food safety rule under the FDA Food Safety Modernization Act (FSMA) that governs transportation of food. The new rule on Sanitary Transportation of Human and Animal Food requires those involved in transporting human and animal food by motor or rail vehicle to follow recognized best practices for sanitary transportation. Most noteworthy to the alcohol beverage industry, the new rule does NOT apply to the transportation of food fully enclosed by a container that does not require temperature control to prevent it from becoming unsafe.
