Biography

For more than 30 years, George has assisted public and private clients in navigating the intersection of politics, regulation and litigation. Most recently, he was lead counsel for the Florida House of Representatives as it developed, defended and litigated Florida's new redistricting plan. He also represents private clients regarding regulatory compliance, complex civil litigation and government affairs. Clients include Fortune 500 companies, national business associations, state and national health care companies, educational institutions, and local governments.

Regulatory & Administrative Law

George has advised numerous clients on regulatory compliance issues before Florida's Agency for Health Care Administration, Department of Health, Department of Education, Department of Transportation, Department of Environmental Protection, Department of Business and Professional Regulation, Office of Insurance Regulation, Department of Financial Services, and Department of Children and Families. He has tried scores of procurement protests and other cases under Florida's Administrative Procedures Act.

  • Ongoing representation of national child care provider to ensure regulatory compliance and successful resolution of administrative complaints

Complex Litigation

George has litigated, at trial and on appeal, numerous complex legal claims on behalf of governmental and private clients. He has argued appeals before the Florida Supreme Court, all five Florida district courts of appeal and the U.S. Court of Appeals for the 11th Circuit. In addition to representation of companies such as General Motors, Nissan, Blue Cross Blue Shield of Florida, CSX and Apollo Group, George has represented the governor of Florida, the Florida secretary of state and four speakers of the Florida House of Representatives.

  • Successfully represented the Florida House of Representatives in original proceeding in the Florida Supreme Court, prevailing 7-0

  • Successfully represented the Florida Speaker of the House in original proceeding in the Florida Supreme Court, striking an initiative petition from the ballot
    • Advisory Opinion to Attorney General Re: Independent Nonpartisan Commission to Apportion Legislative and Congressional Districts, 926 So. 2d 1218 (Fla. 2006)
  • Successfully defended the Florida Legislature's 2002 House and congressional redistricting maps against multiple federal challenges before three-judge district court
